Greengrass to Direct ‘Blackbeard’?

1

It is alleged that Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean broke the film industry’s bad luck curse on the pirate film. Pirate films have never been a plentiful box office office bounty (Cutthroat Island anyone?), however, its reported that a film on Edward ‘Blackbeard’ Teach has been greenlit, with director Paul Greengrass probably at the helm.

The script is written by Gladiator scribe David Franzoni, and is a darker more serious take on the genre.

This is great news, Greengrass is one of Hollywood’s greatest new talent. His documentary style, and no holds-barred story telling is a great addition to a film like Blackbeard. Hopefully the rumors are true, we all love a good pirate movie!
