Review: Wreck it Ralph

Review: Wreck it Ralph

Some of my fondest memories growing up are the times I spent at the local arcade. Hours upon hours shooting skeeballs, and wasted quarters in everything from The Simpsons Arcade Machine to Operation Wolf. Arcades, like many things, are unfortunately a thing of the past. So, when the trailers for “Wreck it Ralph” came out, I was ready to ride the nostalgia roller coaster to whatever story Walt Disney Animation Studios had cooked up for me.

Wreck it Ralph, much like Toy Story, starts with the idea that the characters in Arcade Machines have a life beyond being games people play with. Upon their creation, the characters in the game are there to do the task they were programmed to do, and when the arcade closes, they are free to fraternize, and even grab a beer in the Arcade Game “Tapped” (a beer pouring video game). Ralph, voiced by John C. Reilly, is the “bad guy,” in a game called Fix it Felix Jr. Ralph wrecks the residential high rise, and the player, controls Felix Jr. (Jack McBrayer), to, “fix” the high rise, and eventually toss Ralph off the top floor of the complex.

Street Fighter: First…Review?

Now it isn’t typical of the reviewer to refer our readers to another site for their reviews, but for this I’ll make an exception. Dan Amrich over at Official Xbox Magazine has written a non-review review of the upcoming Street Fighter movie.

There was nothing about the pre-release buzz on this flick that made me think, hey, we got a winner. But when I read this note from Amrich’s review: “Your father has been the milk of my operation…but even milk has an expiration date.” – Bison I couldn’t stop laughing.

I’m gonna keep saying it…eventually, someone will adapt a Video Game to great success. But today is not that day.

Capcom Pursuing Hollywood

Capcom is looking to follow the example of Marvel Comics and turn their own properties into successful film franchises. Capcom is the publisher of Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Bionic Commando, Viewtiful Joe, Phoenix Wright, and Street Fighter.

Much of their future in film adaptations relies on ‘Street Fighter,’ a joint production with Fox. ‘Street Fighter’ is currently in production.

This is a constant debate on Lonely Reviewer, and I still maintain, its not exactly the property, its the creative talent behind it. I’ve got high hopes for Street Fighter (anything can be better then the original adaptation), I just need ONE movie right now to prove the naysayers wrong. (I’m looking at you Justin)

Fox Release Schedule Updates

A few housekeeping announcements from Twentieth Century Fox:

Alvin & the Chimpunks will be returning once again to the screen, with a release date set for March 19, 2010. The folm, which grossed $217.3 million dollars domestically doesn’t have a script or a plot, and Jason Lee is not currently set to reprise his role as Dave Seville.

Secondly, the new ‘Street Fighter’ adaptation has a release date of February 27, 2009. No word on whether or not this will be good.

Mortal Kombat and DC Comics Universes to Collide

In the future, universes will merge! Dogs will be playing with cats, and DC Comics characters will be fighting Mortal Kombat Characters.
