50/50

Let’s all laugh about CANCER!!  But seriously, I guess this is a drama with some funny parts?  I don’t know…the marketing is all fucky on this one.  Am I supposed to laugh?  Am I supposed to feel uncomfortable?  Am I supposed to cry?  I guess that’s what’s supposed to make me go see this movie…but I won’t.  It’s nice to see Seth Rogan is slowly starting to fade away.  It was getting to the point where he was in fucking everything, basically looking into the camera, winking and saying “Uhhhh…I’m Seth Rogan dude!  Nutsacks!  Balls! Weed!”  Enough…we get it, you’re a lovable stoner loser.  I even watched Paul the other day and sure enough, he’s the fucking alien. He’s like a crying infant.  Can’t I just have a moment of peace?? Yet, no nanny will shake him until he dies.  And Joseph Gordon Levitt shows up again to give girls another reason to swoon over a nerd, yet reject any real nerd they come across in real life.  Ironic, isn’t it?  Awww…he’s even cute when he’s dying…yet between him and Michael Cera, he’s been slowly killing off the male identity for years.  Stop being sad over girls, you two chuckleheads!  There is a 50/50 chance that I will see this movie….nah, I’m joking.  It’s 20/80.

DREAM HOUSE

Oh shit!!  A haunted house movie with A-list stars!!  AND IT’S PG-13???  Count me in!!  Just kidding.  Fuck this noise.  This will be another effort by Hollywood, who knows shit about horror, to try and make something spooky!!  I wish they would go balls out and just make another movie that fucked up the world like The Exorcist.  See, that shit had balls.  Dream House has baby dick.  I don’t want to see Bond yelling at ghosts.  You can’t fuck them, Daniel Craig!!  I will sound like a broken record by my own admission, but fuck PG-13 horror.  Once in a GREAT while, they pull it off (Drag Me To Hell), but its rare. What shocks me the most is that this movie is by Jim Sheridan, whom I love!  If you haven;t seen In The Name Of The Father, and you call yourself a film lover…well do me a favor and trace your vein with a straight razor, because you should be lucky to be alive.  Jim Sheridan will be the only reason that I will see this someday, and he might be the one saving grace of this otherwise tired looking movie.

WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER?

Will someone tell me who the fuck Anna Faris is and why I should give a shit that she is alive?  She looks like something Hugh Hefner squirted out of his pendulous nutsack before nearly having a stroke and then one of the Playboy bimbos took some flour, salt, milk and eggs; mashed them all up in a bowl; rolled them out on a pan; put it in the oven for 45 minutes at 450 degrees; shaped it into a female figure; put a blonde wig on it; and then slapped it silly.  Could there be any more of a generic twit working in Hollywood today?  So this movie is about her like tracking down all the guys she’s fucked over the years for, what?  Closure or something?  And judging by the previews, she’s fucked ALOT of dudes. Her gaping maw must look like the Sarlacc Pit when it burps after eating Boba Fett. And if you stick your dick in, you will find a new meaning for pain and suffering as you are slowly digested for 1,000 years. Chewie, give me the gun!!  At 106 minutes, this movie looks like it will drag more than a basset hound’s nuts.  PASSSSSS!

Review: 50/50

I wasn’t sure what to expect going into Jonathan Levine’s “50/50.”  Judging on the trailers, there was a good chance it could have been mostly a comedy, or, it could have been depressing and sad. Despite its subject matter, this film really is the perfect balance of both.

50/50 is written by Will Reiser, loosely based on his own experiences with cancer. Directed by Jonathan Levine (The Wackness), the film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, and Anna Kendrick, and sets out to take a realistic, yet humorous look at a young person suffering from cancer.

Adam (Gordon-Levitt) is 27-years old, and is a producer at a local public radio station where he works with his best friend Kyle (Rogen). His girlfriend, Rachael (Bryce Dallas Howard) is an artist, and they share a somewhat trying relationship that is under constant criticism from Kyle.

Worried about strange pains in his back, Adam goes to the doctor, where he learns that he has cancer. The news is shocking, as Adam has lived his life as cautiously as possible.

The news of cancer is trying on his relationships, not just with Rachael, but with his at-times overbearing mother (Anjelica Huston), and his best friend, who seems to have his own motivations for his friends sickness.

So much of this film is incredibly relatable, whether you suffer your own ailments, or know someone who has fought or is fighting cancer. The relationships between Adam, his friends, and family feel incredibly real, thanks to the everyman nature of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s acting.

Gordon-Levitt has amazing chemistry with everyone he’s put next to. Whether its acting opposite scene stealing Seth Rogen, or the sweetheart rookie therapist played by Anna Kendrick, he has presence. Many people of late have complained that their tired of Seth Rogen, I am not one of those people. I’ve loved him since Freaks & Geeks, and I think his role in this film will appease even the haters. He’s used minimally, and when he is used, it fits perfectly.

The pacing of this film is incredible. In one scene you are laughing out loud, and two scenes later, you’re holding back tears. But none of it goes too far, it pulls at your heart strings, but there is nothing cheap or cheesy about what transpires.

I cannot recommend this movie enough, it is the first movie I’ve seen since ‘Blue Valentine’ that I left still thinking about days later. If you see one film this fall season, make it 50/50.

“Green Hornet” Starts Shooting (Updated)

After much back-and-forth with who would star, and who would direct this movie, shooting has begun on “The Green Hornet.”  Michel Gondry is directing the script by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

Rogen is also starring as Britt Reid.  Cameron Diaz plays Lenore Case while Nicolas Cage plays the enigmatically named Mr. X. Just as shooting starts comes word that Cage is out as the villain in the movie.  The search is now on for a new nemesis.  We’ll keep you updated.

Release is scheduled for December 2010.

Cage to Join Hornet

Nicolas Cage is in preliminary talks to join the cast of ‘The Green Hornet.’ The film is being directed by Michel Gondry and sells Seth Rogen as the title crime fighter.

Cage is in talks to play the gangster villain. Also Cameron Diaz will possibly join the cast as the reporter/love interest.

The film is scripted by Rogen and Evan Goldberg (Superbad). Filming begins this fall.

What happens when the eternal teenager grows up?  Kevin Smith burst onto the scene in the mid-90s with “Clerks,” a movie filled with no dirty pictures, but wall-to-wall filth.  Smith continued the trend with “Mallrats,” “Chasing Amy,” and then, lesser fare.  “Zack and Miri Make a Porno,” is Smith’s second movie that takes place without his usual Jay and Silent Bob characters. Michel Gondry to Direct Green Hornet

Columbia has tapped visionary director Michel Gondry to direct Seth Rogen in ‘The Green Hornet.’ The adaptation has been written by Rogen with frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg.

Apparently, Gondry pitched a vision to production presidents, who have been looking for a director since Stephen Chow backed out last year. Chow remains in the film as the Green Hornet’s sidekick.

Remember like, five days ago, when we reported that the “Green Hornet” movie was slowly dying?  Not so fast says star and co-writer Seth Rogen.

Rogen tells HitFix that Stephen Chow may have left the director’s seat, but he has not left the movie and will still play Kato.  Here’s what Rogen told HitFix:

“‘The Green Hornet’ has many people working for it, including production designers, costume designers and many conceptual artists, office staff, etc.,” he said during our e-mail exchange back and forth. “[The studio heads] have every intention on making it, and assuming we’re able to hire a new director in the upcoming weeks, which seems like a distinct possibilty, it should still hit the release date.”

This is good news, since this is one movie I’ve been looking forward to.  We’ll keep you up-to-date on the latest comings and goings on this project.  -Sam

“Green Hornet” On Hold… Again

“Green Hornet” On Hold… Again

The future of “The Green Hornet” movie, this time starring Seth Rogen and Stephen Chow is up in the air.

Chow, who was going to both direct and play Cato, stepped out of the director’s chair in December, but wanted to stay on and act in the movie.  Now the production date of the movie is in question, which puts the fate of the movie in question.  A source close to the project at Sony tells HitFlix that the movie will not shoot in 2009.

So, everything is up in doubt and, supposedly, Sony’s close to pulling the plug this film.  Again.  Both Michel Gondry and Kevin Smith tried to revive the franchise in recent years.  I just want to see this movie… How hard is that?  -Sam

Review: Zack and Miri Make a Porno

The phrase “a return to form,” gets thrown around too loosely, we’ve heard it a few times this year (i.e. everytime Woody Allen makes a movie it seems like someone says it), but I think in Kevin Smith’s instance, it may actually be true. ‘Zack and Miri Make A Porno,’ is an endearing, funny, fun film about two people down on their luck, and looking to take their fate into their own hands. ‘Zack and Miri’ Poster Released

‘Zack and Miri’ Poster Released

zackandmiriposter-small.jpg

Kevin Smith has released the poster for his new movie, ‘Zack and Miri Make a Porno.’

The teaser and the trailer both look really good.  The fact that Smith is fighting with the MPAA over the rating also has my interest piqued.   On top of everything else, the poster looks good.  I’m looking forward to seeing this one.  -Sam
