Remember When? Top 5 Charlie Sheen Movies

Remember When? Top 5 Charlie Sheen Movies

Back when Charlie Sheen wasn’t making an ass out of himself, there were a few good films he was in that ranged from great to generally entertaining. It does disappoint me because growing up, I did consider him along the same lines as some of the better actors to come out if the 80s. From Comedy, to Action, to Drama, Sheen could do it all.

I thought it’d be fun to take a quick look back at some of his pre meltdown films. Feel free to chime in with your own favorites in the comments!

Platoon

Oliver Stone’s personal film based on his own time as an infantryman in the Vietnam war. Sheen plays Chris Taylor, a young man who quit college to serve in Vietnam. Sheen truly showed his acting chops in this great film.

Major League

Who doesn’t have a soft spot for this satire? Sheen plays ex-con Rick Vaughn, in this film also featuring Tom Berenger, and Wesley Snipes. The new owner of a fictional Cleveland Indians puts together a rag-tag team of crappy athletes so she can sell of the team and move on – so the team starts winning – hilarity ensues.

Terminal Velocity

This 1994 action film directed by Deran Sarafian told the story of a sky diving instructor (Charlie Sheen) that finds himself mixed up in the wrong crowd – Russian Spy’s. The film was pure absurd escapist fun, but extremely entertaining.

Wall Street

Michael Douglas. Oliver Stone. Ensemble Cast. Do I really need to elaborate?

Hot Shots (Part 1 and 2)

From the co-director of “Airplane!” Sheen leads the film that lampoons “Top Gun.” As a kid I remember seeing the commercials with him launching a chicken out of a bow-and-arrow. Awesome.

This is just a handful, but there are plenty of others, Red Dawn, Young Guns, Eight Men Out, Navy Seals, and more. Rank your top 5 Sheen films in the comments below!

Bardem Leaves ‘Wall Street’ Sequel

Actor Javier Bardem has backed out of the sequel to Oliver Stone’s ‘Wall Street,’ due to scheduling difficulties. The sequel is called ‘Money Never Sleeps,’ and stars Shia LaBeouf, as the soon to be son in law of Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas).

Bardem was set to play a villian, a hedge fun manager. Bardem will be starring in the Julia Roberts romancer, ‘Eat, Pray, Love.’

Oliver Stone, Shia LaBeouf Join “Wall Street 2″

Variety is reporting that Oliver Stone and Shia LaBeouf has signed on to join Michael Douglas in “Wall Street 2.”

The script was originally witten a couple of years ago by Stephen Schiff, but things didn’t work out.  Alan Loeb has done a re-write on the script and now things look like they’re moving forward.

The story involved Gordon Gekko getting out of prison and mentoring a young LaBeouf, in exchange for spending time with his estranged daughter.

Can’t say I’m looking forward to this, but who knows, Oliver Stone has surprised me before.

Sometimes I wonder if when asked to identify his occupation, Oliver Stone just writes “pot stirrer.”  Stone has virtually made a career of making movies that are going to enrapture some and bug the hell out of others. [Read more...]

‘Payne’ Tops Weekend Box Office

The latest film based on a video game was tops at the box office this past weekend.  ‘Max Payne,’ starring Mark Wahlberg, (who, just so you know does not talk to animals… No matter what ‘Saturday Night Live,’ may tell you,) opened at number one, raking in $18 million.

The confusingly popular ‘Beverly Hills Chihuahua’ continued to make money for Disney, coming in at number two, adding $11.2 million to bring it’s total haul to $69 million. [Read more...]

Check out the all new W. trailer, I seriously cannot wait for this film.

‘W’ Poster Released

‘W’ Poster Released

The teaser poster for Oliver Stone’s latest controversial project, ‘W,’ has been released.  The poster features some of the best known quotes from George W. Bush.  The film stars Josh Brolin as the President, and Elizabeth Banks as Laura Bush.  Thandie Newton plays Condoleezza Rice and Richard Dreyfus is playing Dick Cheney

The poster really doesn’t do much for me.  Plus, most of the quotes are so well known, it’s not surprising that these bon mots came falling from the mouth of the 43rd President of the United States.  That said, I’m intrigued by the movie’s premise, to say nothing of the race to get into theaters before the November election.  -Sam

Rums-found. W. Casting Announcement

Rums-found. W. Casting Announcement

scottglenn.jpg Looks like good ole’ Ollie has cast has Donald Rumsfeld.  Stone has announced his next piece on the strange George W. Bush project, so creatively titled W.  Scott Glen (Backdraft, Silence of the Lambs), has been cast as Rumsfeld, Bush’s military cronie.  I think its a pretty good casting choice, as far as looks go, and I’ve always been a subtle fan of Scott Glen.  He is a pretty underrated supporting actor, who could really shine through in this role.  My problem is with the
movie itself.  To me, it just seems a TAD soon for anyone to be making a film about President Bush.  I mean, when the film is released, he won’t even be out of office yet.  What if something humongous happens to him or the world on October 20th?  Then the movie will ALREADY be dated.  I know they’re going to go more into his past and rise to the
presidency, but still, to need to have a SMALL amount of the present in this movie.  The man has made major modern waves in the world.  I don’t really think him drinking his brain cells away in college really has much more importance than his endorsement of John McCain, or even his reaction to his last days as President.  Just seems like this
movie would serve more of a purpose for 2010.  But…I guess since everyone seems to hate the guy, they just can’t wait to translate that hatred onto the silver screen.  Cowboy Oliver Stone hog-ties this story to us on October 17th.

‘W’ First Scene Leaks

It appears that the opening scene of Oliver Stone’s upcoming biopic on President George W. Bush, called ‘W,’ has made its way to the Internet. The Hollywood Reporter “Risky Biz Blog” has an introductory article leading into a 4-page PDF file of the first scene of the screenplay.

I know Stone is known for being controversial and I didn’t expect ‘W’ to be any different. And while this isn’t over the top (or particularly telling), there are some interesting choices. Namely, Rove’s nickname. And clearly they’re going to play up Bush’s history with booze.

But don’t take my word for it, read all about here!
