IFFBoston ’13 Spotlight: SHORTS

One of the best parts of every years Independent Film Festival of Boston are its amazing shorts packages. This year, the shorts are split into 7 different “packages,” all offering a different selection of films. Below, I’ll be highlighting and featuring trailers from a few.

World Fair

A documentary from Amanda Murray, “World Fair” celebrates the personal memory and amateur cinematography through the 1939 New York World’s Fair. At the end of the Great Depression, millions traveled to a former ash dump in Queens, New York to catch a fleeting glimpse of a better future. World Fair raised money via Kickstarter for licensing, and transfer of a wealth of historic footage, as well as an original score. The film makes its world premiere at IFFBoston
as part of Shorts Package E (Thursday, April 25 at 7:30pm as well as Monday, April 29 at 9:30pm). Buy Tickets Here.

Jesus Fish

A Southern-Gothic film about a would-be con artist, and his adopted brother whose reckless getaway crosses paths with a mythic lake monster. From the trailer, the film looks beautifully shot, all on location in Southeastern Tennessee. The film is Directed by Bryce James McGuire. “Jesus Fish” screens as part of the Narrative Shorts Package, Friday, April 26th at the Somerville Theatre. Buy Tickets Here.

Die Like an Egyptian

This short documentary from Matt Mamula has quite an intriguing subject, it tells the story of a 90-year old man who built his own egyptian coffin, a dream he’s had since he was 8 years. Die Like an Egyptian screens at the Somerville Theatre as part of Shorts Package F, Saturday, April 27, 2013. Buy Tickets Here.
