‘Mission: Impossible 4′

April 30, 2008

It seems like the rumors of a ‘Mission: Impossible 4′ are true.  Tom Cruise will restart the franchise that nobody really wants restarted.  According to an insider speaking with ‘Life & Style Magazine’:

“Tom will make M:I 4 once Paramount greenlights the script.”

I am assuming that Paramounts one concern is that Tom Cruise will be heavily involved and highly visible in the film.  That concern stems from the fact that he is most likely, what doctors refer to as, “bat-shit crazy.”  I know these terms because I’m a doctor.  That is why I have this lab coat on and name tag that says “Dr. Sexypants.”  Which is funny, because I never wear pants.

‘Transformers 2′ Casting

April 30, 2008

Jonah HillLooks like ‘Transformers 2′ may get an interesting cast member. Reports are saying that Jonah Hill (’Superbad,’ ‘Accepted,’ ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’) is in talks with the production to play the wisecracking sidekick opposite Shia LeBouf in the upcoming sequel to last year’s summer blockbuster. Whether this is true or not is hard to say. Michael Bay has been somewhat vocal about spreading lies regarding the upcoming film because of the backlash of revealing too much too soon for the original ‘Transformers.’

The Mummy 3 Poster

April 30, 2008

mumm3post.jpgTeaser poster for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emporer, has appeared across the internet. As you can see, it shows a rather rotting fellow eroding off the poster.

There ain’t too much one can say about this film other then Rachel Weisz isn’t coming back for it, and really, it’s probably one of those films that they could named anything else, since historically, films in the Mummy franchise don’t take place in China.

I can hear the meeting, let’s skip the character development. How? Tie it in and use the characters from The Mummy remake, those guys are lying stagnant, why not make some money off it?

Paramount to Finally Release Blu-Ray Titles

April 30, 2008

Paramount the only hold out formerly of the HD-DVD camp will be releasing its first Blu-Ray title next month.

The first to be released are Bee Movie. Face/Off, and Next. Apparently, Blu-Ray owners really want Nicholas Cage movies before more important Paramount titles like Indiana Jones, or Taxi Driver.

The last HD-DVD titles released by Paramount came out March 4th, and were in the bargain 40% bin immediately.

As a former HD-DVD supporter, these blu-ray stories come at me like a reminder of a loss of a loved one. It’s like, yep, thanks, ok….*sob*

‘Dark Knight’ Updates

April 29, 2008

It’s. About. Fucking. Time. Well, almost, anyways. Finally, finally, finally, the new ‘The Dark Knight’ trailer will be debuting!!! This Sunday (5/6) it will appear at this site. The last scavenger hunt ended yesterday, with the various locations given their GPS coordinates and the various clues to track throughout a few of the country’s various big cities. And lo and behold, we have the final trailer for their efforts. Now I saw a bootleg copy of it this morning and it was unbelievably awesome. We get a look at Harvey Dent in action, a lot of new Joker stuff and a lot more Batman. Can you guess just how pumped I am for this?

DVD Review: The Orphanage

April 29, 2008

Laura‘The Orphanage’ has Guillermo del Toro’s name plastered all over the packaging and the advertising for it. And the film does have a very “del Toro” feel to it (he helped produce the film). But credit where credit is due, the huge success of this film belongs to director J.A. Bayona and his stellar crew. The story follows Laura as she returns to the orphanage she grew up in. She and her husband, Carlos, have purchased the house with the hopes of turning it into a home for special needs children. Laura and Carlos have an adopted son, Simon, who they have not told that he is adopted, nor that he is very sick. Simon has an active imagination and, as such, has a few imaginary friends. But when Simon disappears, Laura starts to learn that some of those imaginary friends may not be illusions and may, in fact, be tied to her past.

Mel Gibson to go to the ‘Edge’

April 29, 2008

melgibson.jpgReturning to the screen after a six year absence, resident lt. controversy Mel Gibson is stepping back in front of the camera. This time for an adaptation of Edge of Darkness, a six hour BBC miniseries from 1985.

Producing the Bill Monahan written script is ‘Departed’ producer Graham King, and will be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) who also directed the miniseries.

The film follows Gibson, a police investigator whose uncovering a system of corruption that led to the death of his activist daughter.

Despite all his issues, I love Mel Gibson, both behind and in front the camera, plus, the Departed dream team back at it again, I think this is a recipe for success.

Soderbergh To Experience Girlfriend

April 29, 2008

Steven Soderbergh will be directing “The Girlfriend Experience,” a film about prostitution from the viewpoint of a $10,000-a night call girl. Rather then wealthy men paying just for a good sexual encounter, but for a call girl who would play the roll of a perfect girlfriend, going above and beyond a usual call girl situation.

The film is part of the six-picture day-and-date release pact made with Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner’s 2929 Entertainment. Following the same pattern as the previous Soderbergh day-and-date release, ‘Bubble’

The film was developed when Soderbergh was working with writers Brian Koppelman and David Levien on ‘Oceans 13.’

The question at hand is, will Soderbergh non-actors like with ‘Bubble,’ or consider real talent. The film will be shot over a period of 14 days following wrap of his new collab with Matt Damon, ‘The Informant.”

It’s projects like these that get me excited about film, out of the box ideas, not just for subject matter, but for for the distribution as well.
