Out of Boneville and Into Hollywood

Jeff Smith’s comic book classic, ‘Bone,’ has been picked up by Warner Bros. for production.  ‘Bone’ follows the tale ofBone three cousins, Phoncible Bone, Smiley Bone and Fone Bone, as they are chased out of Boneville, accidentally landing in a valley that has more to it than it first seems.  With the help of their new friends Thorn and her grandmother, the Bone cousins become entwined with the valley’s battle with the rat creatures and the Lord of the Locusts.  Comparisons of ‘Bone’ to ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy are not unwarranted as the story shifts from light-hearted and funny to a more serious tone as the Bone cousins journey further into the mysterious land to battle the Lord of the Locusts.

This is not the first time ‘Bone’ has been discussed as a feature film.  Jeff Smith pulled out of an earlier project when the production company, Nickelodeon Studios, wanted to make a film version that involved child actors and a lot of pop music.  Right now it remains unclear as to whether the Warner Bros. version will be live action or animated.
